Total Acid Number / Total Base Number
Titra-Lube TAN
Titra-Lube TAN has been designed for oil quality tests at the job site.
Oxidation of oil, such as lubricating, hydraulic, pump and other oils, are one main cause of mechanical malfunction. These oils can be easily tested for TAN (Total Acid Number) by including Titra-Lube TAN test kits in the maintenance schedule.
Careful monitoring of liquids for an increased acid number can reduce costly repairs or equipment replacement. Aged and acid-damaged mineral oil from transformers and turbines, for example from airplanes, etc. can be recognized within a few minutes.
The principle of the test is based on a colorimetric determination, and it covers the range of 0 to 2 mg KOH/g. Titra-Lube TAN closely matches results obtained by more costly laboratory methods such as ASTM Method D-664.

Titra-Lube TBN
Titra-Lube TBN can be used in the field or in a laboratory to determine accurately the TBN (Total Base Number) level in diesel, turbine, hydraulic or compressor engine oils, in less than 5 minutes.
TBN is the reserve alkalinity (base) unit that is added to lubricating oils to protect the engine from the corrosive effects of acids generated by the combustion of fuels containing sulfur. The test kits can measure the amount of reserve base from 0 to 20 mg KOH/g of sample. The oil colour of the sample does not affect the test results because the colorimetric determination is carried out in the aqueous phase.
By using this field test kit unnecessary oil changes in machines, equipment and vehicles can be avoided and costs may be reduced.
Titra-Lube TBN results can be compared with the ASTM Methods D-2896 and D-4739.
